Preparing for your service

Cockroach and Ant Pest  Control

What you can do before treatment

  • Ensure all loose items are off the floor, especially around skirting boards, eg: clothing, toys, etc. It is not necessary to move furniture unless you believe you have a bad infestation or German Cockroaches.
  • If, before our Technician arrives, you believe you have a bad infestation, or German Cockroaches, it is advised: Kitchen and bathroom cupboards are emptied of food stores, crockery, cutlery and/or cooking utensils to get the most out of the treatment. Furniture is pulled away from skirting boards, eg: couches, bedside tables, fridges, etc.
  • It is recommended that you do not mop the floors within 24 hours of the treatment taking place. Please feel free to clean your floors before we arrive, but the floors and carpets must be dry in order to carry out the treatment.
  • It is best that you mow the lawns before we arrive. This will allow the technician clear access to the perimeter of the external of your home to create a safe chemical boundary.

What you can do after treatment

  • Limit the clutter within the house as having a cluttered house can introduce pests to your home and become a harbourage area for pests. Limit paper goods and throw out cardboard boxes.
  • You should assess your home for possible attractants. For example; sugar, coffee and scraps around the kitchen. Sometimes the source of the problem can be found in coffee machines that are not regularly cleaned.
  • General tidiness will help remedy the problem at hand and help prevent future infestations that may have occurred otherwise.

Spider Pest Control

What you can do before treatment

  • Ensure all loose items are off the floor, especially around skirting boards, eg: clothing, toys, etc.
  • It is recommended that you do not mop the floors within 24 hours of the treatment taking place. Please feel free to clean your floors before we arrive, but the floors and carpets must be dry in order to carry out the treatment.

What you can do after treatment

  • Please do not remove the webs until after 7-10 days. This will allow the product to work as other spiders come in to take the place of remedied spiders.
  • Limit the clutter within the house as having a cluttered house can introduce pests to your home and become a harbourage area for pests. Limit paper goods and throw out cardboard boxes.
  • General tidiness will help remedy the problem at hand and help prevent future infestations that may have occurred otherwise.

Fleas and Tick Pest Control

What you can do before treatment

  • Treat your pets as soon as you can. You will get better results if all flea treatments, environmental and on animals, are done about the same time.
  • Ensure all loose items are off the floor, especially around skirting boards, eg: clothing, toys, etc. It is not necessary to move furniture unless you believe you have a bad infestation.
  • It is recommended that you do not mop the floors within 24 hours of the treatment taking place. Please feel free to clean your floors before we arrive, but the floors and carpets must be dry in order to carry out the treatment.
  • It is best that you mow the lawns before we arrive. If your lawn is too long, we cannot carry out the treatment as it will be ineffective.
  • If you are going away on holidays after the treatment have a friend stomp through the house/yard several times while you are away, especially on the day of your return, the fleas will hatch and die on the treated surfaces before your return.
  • Vacuum all carpets before the treatment and empty the vacuum bag into a bag and then into the garbage and do not vacuum for at least 7 days after the treatment, again empty the contents of the vacuum bag into a bag and then into the rubbish.
  • Some insecticides will affect fish so it is advised to cover the tank and turn off the filter prior to treatment. Remove pets from the area to be treated and return them when the treatment has dried.

What you can do after treatment

  • Limit the clutter within the house as having a cluttered house can introduce pests to your home and become a harbourage area for pests. Limit paper goods and throw out cardboard boxes.
  • General tidiness will help remedy the problem at hand and help prevent future infestations that may have occurred otherwise.
  • Keep on top of regular flea and tick treatments for your pets.

Be patient.

Even if everything has been done correctly, you will still see newly hatched fleas, usually for several weeks. Do not leave the flea infested areas undisturbed as movement hatches fleas and they will then come in contact with the treated areas.

Fleas will be seen when an area is newly disturbed, such as when people get up in the morning or go outside, but not later in the day in that area. If the treatments are working, fleas will hatch, contact the treated surface (carpet, tiles treated by our company, or pet treated with an on-animal product) and die within a few hours.

What to expect from your Pest Technician

Service areas with method(s) of application as required eg:

  • Apply gel to under workbench areas, cupboards, door hinges and/or wastepipes using Cockroach/Ant gel by means of a hand-held applicator.
  • Apply dusting power by means of a hand-held duster to electrical motors/appliances, cracks and crevices.
  • Application of light spray may be used in areas such as skirting boards, storage areas and cupboards provided the latter do not contain any food stores, crockery, cutler and/or cooking utensils.
  • Should areas contain food stores, etc. as stated above; a gel method of pest control will be applied.
  • Apply dusting power with an electrical duster in roof void areas only when the roof void area is completely sealed from any food area and insulation is not rendering the dusting pointless.
  • Leave extra baited ant station if necessary.
  • Place a Pestaway sticker in appropriate area to display date of pest control.

Often treatments will not be instant as the gels and baits take time to start taking effect. Sometimes especially with ants they will appear to be worse before they get better. You need to follow any special instructions that the Technician may have given you and if there is still a problem after approximately 14 days please contact the Pestaway office and we will arrange a follow up treatment.

The above is a rough guide of what may be done. Each Technician, however, uses slightly different methods and areas that do not require treatment may not be done. If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to call our office on 4055 1055 to discuss this matter.
